Furniture for Private Residences

Fully bespoke pieces for primary residences, second homes and investment properties. Statement dining tables, bedroom furniture, outdoor living, produced in Bali and delivered to your door.

The private client

Material quality at close range. Not visual complexity.

Private residence clients typically come to Ubud Atelier with a specific brief. They want real materials, timber with grain, stone with texture, rattan with weave, not veneer or lacquer or chrome. They want pieces that communicate quality when you touch them, not just when you photograph them. And they have often found that the European bespoke market, while capable of the quality they want, cannot produce it at a price point that makes a full-residence commission realistic.

The private residence client profile at Ubud Atelier skews toward properties that have been through a considered renovation: an architectural conversion with non-standard room dimensions, a hillside villa with custom spatial requirements, a city apartment where the client knows exactly what they want and simply cannot find it in catalogue form. The brief is almost always about a specific piece, a dining table at a particular dimension, a bed frame with a particular headboard construction, and we work from there.

The workshop's production process for private residence work is more deliberate than for hotel orders. The piece count is lower, the stakes per piece higher. He selects timber for statement pieces personally. Mock-ups are produced before final material is cut. Production photography is sent at each stage. The process is designed to eliminate surprises at the delivery end.

Private residence furniture by Ubud Atelier — bespoke reclaimed teak and brass pieces for a luxury home

What we deliver

Statement dining tables

The centrepiece commission. Reclaimed teak slab tables from Indonesian colonial timber, solid plantation teak at non-standard dimensions, stone-topped dining tables with teak or steel bases. Timber for statement pieces is selected personally from the workshop's reclaimed stock.

Living room furniture

Sofas and lounge chairs with solid teak or rattan frames, coffee tables in teak or Paras volcanic stone, consoles, bookshelves and media cabinets. Upholstered pieces built from frames produced in Bali with fabric sourced locally or supplied by the client.

Bedroom furniture

Bed frames, bedside tables, dressing tables, wardrobes. All built to your architectural drawings. Headboard constructions from floor to ceiling, platform frames with integrated storage, built-in wardrobe carcasses with timber panel fronts.

Outdoor living

Terrace and garden furniture in A-grade plantation teak or UV-coated rattan, specified for your climate. Outdoor dining tables, lounge chairs, daybeds, parasol bases. Material and finish selection driven by your destination's UV exposure, humidity and salt conditions.

Stone & sculptural pieces

Paras volcanic stone coffee tables, basins, shower platforms, architectural feature panels. Each piece hand-carved from a single block of Indonesian volcanic stone, no two identical. Individually crated, photographed and documented for transit.

Custom millwork

Kitchen island carcasses, library walls, bar counters, architectural storage units. Produced from your architect's technical drawings. Complex joinery is assembled in the Bali workshop before packing to verify tolerances and fit before shipping.

The material argument

The case for Balinese furniture production in a private residence comes down to a single comparison. A large-format reclaimed teak dining table from a European bespoke maker costs €8,000–20,000 depending on the maker and the specification. The same piece, produced in our workshop from Indonesian colonial reclaimed stock selected personally for grain and density, costs €2,500–4,500 landed at a European port.

The gap is large enough that the total cost of a full-residence commission , production, sea freight, customs clearance, installation, is often less than the cost of three or four pieces from a European bespoke maker. This is not a trade-off against quality; it is a structural feature of the Balinese craft economy.

What you're trading is control. You cannot walk into the workshop during production. You depend on documentation, photography and trust in the process. We have built that process over years of residence and hospitality projects, and we are transparent about where it works well and where it requires patience from the client.

Private residence questions

How do you work with clients who can't visit the workshop?

Most of our private residence clients never travel to Bali. The process is managed through detailed documentation: technical drawings signed off before production, material and finish references sent as physical samples to your address, production photography at each stage sent via a shared folder. For pieces where proportion is critical, a large dining table, a statement bedroom piece, we produce a full-size timber mock-up and send photographs against a measured reference before cutting final material.

Do you work with interior designers?

Yes, and most of our residence projects involve an interior designer or architect. We're accustomed to working within a designer's documentation process, responding to finish schedules, providing shop drawings for approval, attending remote design calls, and submitting production photography in the format the designer's project management system requires.

Can you source materials not available in Bali?

For most materials, teak, rattan, bamboo, Paras volcanic stone, Bali is the primary source, so availability is rarely an issue. For upholstery fabrics from European textile houses, we can receive fabric shipped to our Bali address and proceed to upholstery once it arrives. For hardware from specific suppliers, the same applies. We flag any sourcing dependencies at the brief stage.

What's the process for very large or architecturally complex pieces?

For pieces above 3 m in any dimension, or pieces with complex joinery or integrated hardware, the production process includes a pre-production mock-up in inexpensive timber to verify dimensions and joinery before any final material is cut. This adds 2 to 3 weeks to the production schedule but eliminates the category of errors that matter most, proportional mistakes that can't be fixed after production.

How is private client pricing structured?

Private residence pricing is quoted per project after an initial brief. The quote covers all production, quality documentation, container packing and export clearance from Bali. Sea freight, destination customs duties, delivery to site and installation are quoted separately. We don't charge for the initial brief review or logistics assessment.

Can you manage the installation on site?

For straightforward pieces, local installation contractors can work from our numbered installation guide. For complex pieces, a large dining table with a custom base, a bamboo installation, built-in millwork, we can arrange for one of the workshop's senior craftsmen to travel to site for the installation period. This is most common for high-value residence projects where the investment justifies the additional coordination.
